Suburbs like Robina, Coomera and Pimpama sit further inland where radiant heat builds quickly over a full summer day. A heat-reflective roof coating reflects more solar energy before it transfers into the ceiling space below.
None of that means you need a full roof replacement. Most Gold Coast roofs are good candidates for a quality repaint if the underlying structure is sound. The key is preparation: cleaning off the salt deposits, lichen and loose coating before a single drop of paint goes on.

Rusted screws on Colorbond are replaced or treated. Cracked tiles are addressed. Cut edges and any bare metal get a rust-inhibiting primer before topcoat.
We use quality roof coatings suited to the coastal Gold Coast climate. For Colorbond roofs, that means a product designed to flex and adhere to corrugated metal. For tile roofs, a membrane-grade coating that fills the surface texture and bonds to the tile glaze. Heat-reflective coating is available as an upgrade on most roof types.

Older Gold Coast homes, particularly in suburbs like Broadbeach Waters, Mermaid Waters and Varsity Lakes, often have concrete or terracotta tile roofs. These tile roofs are good candidates for repainting once the surface is cleaned and any cracked tiles are replaced.
Concrete tiles absorb the coating well when the surface is properly prepared. Terracotta tiles require a sealer before topcoat to prevent the coating from flaking as the tile expands and contracts in the heat. A quality two-coat system on a prepared tile roof gives a clean, even finish and extends the life of the roof significantly.
Roof painting prices vary based on roof size, pitch (steeper roofs take longer and require more safety setup), the condition of the surface, and the number of coats. Tile roofs generally take longer to coat than Colorbond because of the surface texture. A written quote after an inspection is the only reliable way to give you an accurate figure.

Yes. Painting over a cracked tile does not fix the crack and can trap moisture underneath the new coating. We replace or repair any cracked or broken tiles during the preparation stage before any paint goes on. This is included in the job scope when we quote.
Yes, but the lichen and moss have to be fully removed first. We treat the surface with a cleaning solution and high-pressure wash before any paint or primer is applied. A coating applied over lichen or biological growth will not bond properly and will fail quickly.
A heat-reflective coating uses pigments that reflect a higher proportion of solar infrared energy than standard coatings. On a Gold Coast roof in full summer sun, that can reduce the amount of radiant heat transferred into the ceiling space below. It is available as an upgrade on most Colorbond and tile roofs and is worth considering if the house runs warm in summer.
