What is epoxy floor coating?

Epoxy is a two-part resin system applied directly to prepared concrete. Once cured, it forms a hard, seamless surface that resists oil, chemicals, abrasion and heavy foot or vehicle traffic. It is not a paint. Standard floor paint sits on the surface; epoxy bonds chemically to the concrete and lasts significantly longer when applied correctly.

Ezicon uses high-solids epoxy systems suited to the Queensland climate. Colour options range from solid finishes to flake and metallic blends. The result looks sharp, cleans up easily and holds up where plain concrete would pit, stain and deteriorate.

Where is epoxy flooring used?

Garages Icon

Garages and home workshops

Garage floor epoxy is the most common residential application. A coated garage floor resists tyre marks, oil drips and water. It is easy to hose down or mop, and it brightens a space that plain grey concrete cannot.

We prep the slab thoroughly before application: any cracks are addressed, the surface is cleaned and abraded so the coating bonds properly. Skipping prep is the main reason residential epoxy jobs fail early.

Warehouses and industrial floors

For warehouses, manufacturing areas and storage spaces, epoxy floor coating in Brisbane needs to handle forklifts, pallet jacks and point loads. We specify systems with the right film thickness and slip-resistance profile for the intended traffic.

Safety markings, aisle lines and demarcation zones can be incorporated during the same application sequence.

Commercial and retail spaces

Cafes, retail stores, showrooms and offices use epoxy for its clean look and low maintenance. The right finish level, from satin to high-gloss, depends on the space and the lighting. Ezicon advises on this before the job starts so the result matches what you are expecting.

How the process works

Clean up icon

01

Surface preparation

The slab is inspected, cleaned and mechanically abraded. Any contamination, oils or laitance are removed. This stage determines the bond and the longevity of the finished coating.

02

Primer coat

A penetrating primer seals the concrete and creates a chemical key for the build coats above.

03

Body coat or flake broadcast

The main epoxy layer is applied in one or two coats depending on the system. If a flake finish is specified, vinyl flakes are broadcast into the wet epoxy and the excess is removed once cured.

Top coat

A clear polyurethane or epoxy top coat provides the final surface hardness, UV stability and cleanability.

Cure time

Light foot traffic is usually possible within 24 hours; full cure for vehicle traffic takes longer. Ezicon confirms the specific cure schedule for each job site and climate condition before work starts.

Slip resistance and safety

In commercial and industrial settings, slip resistance is a requirement, not an option. Ezicon can specify anti-slip additives in the top coat to meet the required ratings for the intended use. We do not specify finishes that look good on photos but create a safety risk under foot.

Why preparation is everything

Epoxy flooring in Brisbane fails for one reason: poor prep. Concrete that is not properly cleaned, abraded and primed will delaminate, blister or peel within months. We see it regularly on jobs where a lower-price applicator has rolled straight onto an unprepared slab.

The Ezicon process does not skip this stage. Prep takes longer than the coating itself on most jobs. That is normal and correct.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does epoxy flooring last in Brisbane?

With proper preparation and a quality multi-coat system, an epoxy floor should last many years under normal residential or light commercial use. Longevity depends on preparation quality, the system specified and the traffic the floor receives. Ezicon quotes specific systems and confirms expected performance for each application.

Existing paint or coatings must be removed before epoxy is applied. Paint prevents the epoxy from bonding to the concrete. We assess the existing surface during the initial site inspection and include any remediation in the scope.

Yes. Modern high-solids epoxy systems are formulated to cure reliably in Queensland conditions. Application during extreme humidity or when rain is likely is avoided; we schedule jobs to suit the conditions and the system requirements.

Cost depends on the floor area, the existing slab condition, the system specified and any surface repairs needed. Get a free quote from Ezicon and we will give you a clear written price with no surprise extras.
